WORK LOCATION: AgChemistry Department, LSU AgCenter, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The associate performs laboratory tests to determine chemical and physical characteristics of samples including, but not limited to, feed, fertilizer, lime, plant tissue, soil, water and pesticides.Associate will be required to adhere to and support the laboratory’s Quality Management System based upon ISO 17025 standards and to follow standard operating procedures required for job duties.Research associate ensures that their duties are completed accurately and delivered with high quality in a timely manner. Duties and Responsibilities include: Perform analytical tests based on standards and procedures as assigned by the Supervisor, Laboratory Quality Manager and Director. Assist and perform setup and operation of laboratory equipment. Calibrate laboratory instruments as needed to ensure that analysis is accurate according to the Quality Management system. Clean and sterilize laboratory equipment. Prepare chemical solutions according to standard formulas. Record test results on standardized forms. Understand and complete laboratory raw data sheets and make accurate entries into LIMS database. Ability to read and comprehend all analytical methods, including safety standards, other well-defined analytical standards and procedures used in the laboratory. Exercise procedural, safety and quality requirements specified in LSU Agricultural Chemistry policies.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:Must have a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Coastal Studies, Biological Sciences, Agronomy, Horticulture, Food Science, Nutrition, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Animal Science, Engineering, Forestry, Wildlife, Aquaculture or a related field.
