WORK LOCATION:Botanic Gardens at Burden, LSU AgCenter, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The LSU AgCenter is seeking an individual to work part-time under the guidance of the Director of the Botanic Gardens and work with the Event Coordinator and the LSU AgCenter Senior Director of Development.Responsibilities will be assisting with sponsorship and business development activities that will help support the Botanic Gardens events and programs. The Friends of LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens has a group of dedicated supporters that assist with volunteerism, programing and fund raising.This position will also work closely with this organization to help support programming and fund raising. The Botanic Gardens plays an important role in LSU AgCenter extension and research programs, which support the state’s nursery, landscape and fruit and vegetable industries; wetlands; and forestry industry. It also serves as an integral part of undergraduate and graduate education for the LSU College of Agriculture and numerous horticulture-related organizations. The site is part of the 440-acre Burden Museum & Gardens, which also includes the LSU Rural Life Museum and Windrush Gardens. It is located at Essen Lane and Interstate 10.
The Botanic Gardens include an expansive collection of specialty gardens, woodlands, wetlands and arboreta. Trees & Trails offers five miles of serene walking paths through the Burden Woods. The Rose Garden, Children’s Garden and All America Selections Garden showcase the beauty of plants and flowers and provide educational experiences for gardeners of all ages. In all, the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens consists of five specialty gardens, research fields and orchards, multiple walking trails, a boardwalk over the Black Swamp and two event facilities.
Position Responsibilities include, Expand sponsorship & marketing program strategy in collaboration, Conduct sponsorship initiatives, Develop, and maintain existing and new relationships, Develop & manage new business initiatives, Deliver presentations as requested, Conduct sponsorship sales, Identify partnership opportunities for Botanic Gardens events, Creating and managing the Annual Appeal, Creation of sponsorship reports, Liaison with LSU AgCenter Development Office, Assist with some of the Botanic Gardens events, Maintain sponsorship recognition on all event material, website and social media.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of three years of experience that involved fundraising or a related field are required.Experience working in fundraising is desirable.Applicants must have strong organizational and interpersonal skills, sensitivity to the needs of diverse constituencies and individuals, the ability to self-motivate and work independently, the ability to represent the organization in a professional and positive manner and proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, database and social media programs, especially in regards to Office programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
