Assistant/Associate Professor

(Precision Agriculture)

WORK LOCATION:School of Plant, Environmental & Soil Sciences, LSU AgCenter and LSU College of Agriculture, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The School of Plant, Environmental, and Soil Sciences seeks applicants for a 12 month (45% teaching, 40% extension, and 15% research), tenure-track position specializing in precision agriculture, agronomicmodeling, database management, and GISremote sensing.The successful candidate will teach an introductory course in agricultural GIS with distance education access, a field-based course in hardware and data collection, a course in data assemblage and management, a team taught field course integrating data with precision agriculture equipment, and graduate/undergraduate courses in land use planning and land management. The incumbent will serve as a program resource for extension agents, consultants, commodity groups and clientele on precision agriculture. The incumbent will integrate research findings into workable algorithms for, refining growth of crops, and better understanding environmental interactions to further the science of precision agriculture that complements teaching and research efforts of soil and plant scientists in the unit.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:Ph.D. in soils, agronomy, geography, geology, biology or closely related discipline. Willingness to work closely with others and provide undergraduate student advising is required. Some travel is required. Excellent verbal and written communication is required.
