4-H Camp Coordinator

WORK LOCATION: Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center located in Pollock, LA

POSITION DESCRIPTION: This individual will serve as the 4-H Camp Coordinator of our summer camping program for youth ages 9-12 years of age and as a liaison between summer staff, full-time staff, 4-H agents, and adult volunteers. The 4-H Camp Coordinator will provide creative leadership in the execution, management, and evaluation of our camping program which includes a variety of educational and recreational programs. The 4-H Camp Coordinator directly supervises the camp staff and assists the Camp Director in providing a safe, educational environment for youth attending camp. The 4-H Camp Coordinator provides support to 4-H professionals and volunteers to help youth develop life skills. The 4-H Camp Coordinator will work cooperatively with Camp Director and weekly Camp Manager to ensure the success and safety of weekly camps. This position will serve as the Recreational Coordinator to coordinate weekly scheduled activities. Other duties include: Monday afternoon registration with parish agents and assisting with the training of track instructors and summer staff. Works under the direct supervision of the Camp Director to implement all policies and procedures of the LSU AgCenter and the Louisiana 4-H Youth Development program.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social or Behavioral Sciences, Education, or field related to education
  • Experience in design, implementation, and evaluation of youth development programs
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work as a member of a team
  • Effective working in group situations within and outside the professional staff of Cooperative Extension including: volunteers, 4-H Agents, 4-H and non-4-H youth
  • Must present an enthusiastic attitude and be a positive role model for youth
  • Must be willing to work long hours, including nights
  • Must complete the employee background screening process and be approved by the LSU AgCenter Human Resource Management unit
  • Must be AED/CPR certified. The camp will provide training.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary will commensurate with experience. On-site housing, meals, and wireless internet are available.

DATE AVAILABLE: May 21-August 1, 2018. The camp will not be in session the week of June 18-22, 2018. Must attend required training sessions the week of May 14-18, 2018.
