Research Associate

(Fisheries and Freshwater Ecology)

(This is a grant-funded, non-tenure track position. Continuation will depend on funding, job performance, and continued need for the appointment.)

WORK LOCATION: School of Renewable Natural Resources, LSU AgCenter, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: A multi-investigator team based at LSU AgCenter is seeking a Research Associate to manage and participate in ongoing field activities (e.g., sampling fishes and benthic invertebrates, water quality collections, habitat measurement) within an integrated long term research project and other projects as assigned; assist principal investigators in the design and direction of research activities, as well as data analyses, reporting, and publication of results. Applicants must have a MS in fisheries management, aquatic ecology, or related biological field; experience with operation and maintenance of water quality monitoring and field collecting techniques for fishes, aquatic insects, and invertebrates; experience with database management and programming, and GIS and Microsoft applications; ability to work well independently or within collaborative teams. Experience with operation and maintenance of boats and trailers is preferred. The project involves work with graduate students, as well as state, federal and non-governmental organization collaborators, and the successful candidate will be required to coordinate and communicate findings with all groups. This is a MS level position.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicant must hold a MS in fisheries management, aquatic ecology, or related biological field. Applicant must possess experience in some, or preferably all, of the following (1) demonstrated ability managing field and lab based research projects, (2) experience managing data and working with statistical programs, such as R or SAS, (3) experience and knowledge of freshwater fisheries and ecology (4) experience working in the field, driving boats and collecting field and laboratory data. Ability to work independently, create work plans, meet deadlines, and collaborate critical.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
