Budget and Fiscal Officer

WORK LOCATION: The LSU Agricultural Center is a statewide organization with offices in every parish of Louisiana. The administrative headquarters, including the various business offices, are located in Baton Rouge.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: This position works on the budget and finance team to track the AgCenter’s revenue and expenditures, assist in developing budget strategies, ensure compliance with applicable fiscal policies, and prepare various fiscal reports. This position reports to the Associate Vice President for Administration. This position will focus primarily on the following:

  • Provide broad budget oversight. Assist in developing and implementing revenue and expenditure strategies and monitor regularly. Make budget projections and recommend adjustments.
  • Provide back up support in the areas of federal capacity funds, federal nutrition grants, local funds, self-generated, and foundation funds.
  • Coordinate state budget and capital outlay processes. Monitor the legislative process and changes made by other central agencies for impact on the AgCenter’s budget.
  • Develop and prepare budget reports for administrative personnel. Prepare campus budget reports.
  • Provide oversight for financial controls and reviews.
  • Serve as advisor for special initiatives. Handle special projects as assigned. Coordinate institutional data retention in the business areas.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

ABOUT THE LSU AGRICULTURAL CENTER: The LSU AgCenter is one of 10 campuses within the LSU System. The LSU AgCenter includes the Louisiana Agricultural Experiment Station, which conducts agricultural-based research, and the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service, which extends the knowledge derived from research to the people of the state. The AgCenter is headquartered in Baton Rouge and has 12 “on campus” academic departments and five regions which are made up of 17 branch research stations and an extension office in each parish. QUALIFICATIONS: Baccalaureate degree in business, accounting, auditing or a related field. Minimum of five years of professional level experience in accounting, budgeting/planning, audit or other related field. Other degrees may be accepted if combined with at least four additional years of related experience. Experience in the public sector and/or a university setting is highly desirable. Must have excellent interpersonal, administrative, computer and organizational skills.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
