Research Associate

(Coastal Ecology)

(This is a grant-funded, non-tenure track position through January 2019. Continuation will be dependent on funding, job performance, and continued need for the appointment.)

WORK LOCATION: School of Renewable Natural Resources, LSU AgCenter, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: A multi-investigator team based at LSU AgCenter is seeking a Research Associate to manage a research program focused on oyster reef ecosystem services and the assessment of restoration outcomes in the Gulf of Mexico. Applicants should have a M.S. in biology, oceanography, resources management or related field and experience working with shellfish, fisheries, coastal management. The ideal candidate will have well-developed data management and analyses skills with a background in marine ecology, estuarine and restoration ecology and resource management. The successful candidate will be involved in several on-going projects involving the assessment of oyster reef functioning, including fisheries use, shellfish population assessment, and data analysis and the development of peer-review publications. The project involves work with graduate students, as well as state, federal and non-governmental organization collaborators, and the successful candidate will be required to coordinate and communicate findings with all groups.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicant must hold a MS in biological sciences, natural resources management, or a related field. Applicant must possess experience in some, or preferably all, of the following (1) demonstrated ability managing field and lab based research projects, (2) experience managing data and working with statistical programs, such as R, SAS, (3) experience and knowledge of coastal ecology, particularly bivalve ecology, (4) experience working in the field, driving boats and collecting field and laboratory data. Ability to work independently, create work plans, meet deadlines, and collaborate critical.
