WORK LOCATION: School of Plant, Environmental & Soil Sciences, LSU AgCenter, Baton Rouge, La.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Sugarcane Genetics Laboratory of the School of Plant, Environmental, and Soil Sciences is seeking a research associate to conduct genetic studies in sugarcane to improve agronomic traits, including but not limited to sugar content and (a)biotic stress resistance. The researcher will use contemporary molecular biology and functional genomics tools to identify genes and linked markers associated with the trait(s) of interest. The incumbent will also be expected to work in the field, as needed, in collaboration with a sugarcane pathologist on campus and breeders from Sugar Research Station, St. Gabriel and Sugarcane research Unit of USDA, Houma.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: M.S. in Genetics/Breeding, Plant Biotechnology or other Plant Biology related fields are required. The applicant should have demonstrated record of experience in molecular mapping using bi-parental and diverse population, gene expression analysis, and marker-assisted selection. The candidate should be able to work independently as well as in a team environment. Candidates with experience/ working knowledge in genome engineering via gene editing and polyploidy genetics will be given preference.
