School Garden Training

The LSU AgCenter invites you to learn more about how to improve your school and community through the addition of a school vegetable garden. During this FREE event, the LSU AgCenter, along with other parish gardening professionals will provide you with the training necessary to make the best of your school or community based garden. This event will contain several hands-on and instructional trainings in the following areas:

  • Soil testing
  • Building garden beds
  • Maintain school/community gardens

*Lunch will be served.

Children who garden are more likely to try and enjoy vegetables.

School gardens change kids’ attitudes toward learning about gardening.

Children who garden, gain knowledge and deeper appreciation of agriculture and the food they eat.

School gardens improve self-esteem and attitudes toward school.

School gardens provide opportunities for sensory learning through smells textures and colors.

School gardens cause group cohesion, they are beneficial in improving interpersonal relationships.
