2018 Ag Magic

The LSU AgCenter is proud to present the 2018 Ag Magic Event to be held at the John M. Parker Coliseum on the LSU Baton Rouge Campus. The event will run from April 16-20 for school tours and open April 21 and 22 for the general public from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

This fun, interactive event allows participants to walk through the various and different agriculture industries that are found in Louisiana. From agronomy to zoology, attendees will witness and experience it all. Hands-on stations allows youngsters to see first hand what agriculture really is. Most exhibits are geared towards youngster up to 5th grade level; however, this event is great for the whole family! Mark your calendars, you won’t want to miss it!

4-H Night with the Pelicans

Louisiana 4-H will once again host its “4-H Night with the Pelicans” on Friday, February 23, 2018. Come out and support Louisiana 4-H as the Pelicans take on the Miami Heat in the Smoothie King Arena. Ticket prices vary and promotional packages are available.

EBR Cookery Contest

The EBR 4-H Cookery Contest will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at the Eden Park Branch Library.

The parish cookery contest is a great opportunity for young cooks to explore their culinary skills. Dishes can be an original creation or a family favorite, internet find or Pinterest project, it’s up to you! Dishes must be prepared at home and brought to the contest for judging.

We have divisions in Seafood, Poultry, Egg, Beef, Sugar, and a Bento Contest.

These winners will be able move on and compete at the Regional Cookery.

Please join me in wishing a fond farewell to Andrea Hollister, 4-H Agent in East Baton Rouge Parish. Andrea and her husband have been given a great career opportunity. I know that I speak for all of us when I say we have enjoyed working with Andrea and wish her the best of luck!

Livestock Club

The East Baton Rouge Parish Livestock Show was held on January 12 and 13, 2018. Thank you to all of our sponsors and volunteers for helping with the show! Congratulations to all of our winners and participants. Good luck at the South Central District Show!

National 4-H Conference

February 1, 2018 - The 2019 National 4-H Conference Applications will be available. 4-H youth in their sophomore year of high school are eligible to apply.

In February and March, we will host 2-3 webinars about the application process. These will be open to volunteers, parents and youth.

May 7, 2018 – Applications will be due to the state office.

May 15, 2018 – Interview Schedule will be released.

June 19, 2018 – Interviews will be held in the afternoon during 4-H University.

June 19, 2018 – Winners will be announced during 4-H University night assembly.

The next Horse Club meeting will be held on February 6, 2018 at Central Perk. Let’s Congratulate our EBR horse club in putting on the Capital Area Horse show benefiting their horse club!

Scholarship Time for Seniors

Although going off to college is an exciting time in life, it can also be very expensive. 4-H is here to help with your financial needs through state scholarship opportunities. All high school seniors in East Baton Rouge Parish must complete their 4-H Scholarship forms by March 9, 2018.

Shooting Sports Club

Shooting Sports Club members, please be mindful of the upcoming practices and contests. Remember, all participants must have 8 practice hours to compete in the upcoming meets. They also must have their hunter safety course completed and the certificate turned in to the 4-H agent.

March 24—Ascension Invitational Shoot

March 6-10— Southern Regionals
