(08/03/17) SALT LAKE CITY — Two LSU AgCenter agents received top honors at the National Association of County Agricultural Agents annual meeting held July 9-13.

Ascension Parish county agent Craig Roussel received the Distinguished Service Award, and East Feliciana Parish extension agent Bobby Bingham received the Achievement Award.

Winners of both awards were selected at the state Louisiana Country Agricultural Agents Association meeting in June 2017 in Hammond, according to Carol Pinnell-Alison, AgCenter Franklin Parish extension agent and president of the LCAAA.

The Distinguished Service Award acknowledges outstanding work by an agent who has dedicated 10 or more years of service to the LSU AgCenter, while the Achievement Award distinguishes an agent with less than 10 years of service.

LSU AgCenter agents joined other cooperative extension experts from across the nation at the national meeting to exchange information and hear updates on key agriculture issues.

“This professional improvement training gives agents an opportunity to interact with experts from across the country, learn more about agricultural issues experienced by other states and bring the latest information back to Louisiana to better serve our stakeholders,” Pinnell-Alison said.

Also at the meeting, the Louisiana Master Farmer Program was selected winner of the Search for Excellence in Forestry and Natural Resources Award. Master Farmer Program staff members Ernest Girouard, Allen Hogan, James Hendrix and Donna Morgan accepted the award.

Retired AgCenter area agent John Pyzner, of Monroe, was recognized at the conference opening session in a special ceremony honoring United States veterans.

LCAAA officers elected for 2017-18 are: president, Pinnell-Alison; president elect, Blair Hebert, extension agent in Iberia Parish; vice president, Sara Shields, extension agent in Point Coupee Parish; secretary, Wink Alison, extension forage specialist at the Scott Research and Education Center in Winnsboro; treasurer, Bobby Soileau, director of Agriculture Leadership Development in Baton Rouge; past president, Bobby Bingham, extension agent in East Feliciana Parish.
