Lincoln Parish 4-H'ers Show Off Their Culinary Talents

Lincoln Parish 4-H held the Annual Lincoln Parish 4-H Cooking Contest on December 2, 2017 at Tractor Supply of Ruston. 4-H members from throughout Lincoln Parish had the opportunity to enter the Cooking Contest. The contest offered five categories that included a total of nine divisions. The categories and divisions were as follows:

Beef: Ground Beef Appetizer and Ground Beef Main Dish

Poultry: Chicken

Seafood: Shrimp, Fish, and Crawfish

Egg: Appetizer/Salad and Dessert

Wild Game

Twenty-five Lincoln Parish 4-H members participated in the cooking contest and the winners are as follows:

Beef Category: Ground Beef Appetizer Division

1st Place – Alana Johnson – Simsboro Elementary

Beef Category: Ground Beef Main Dish Division

1st Place – Jackson Garcia – Cypress Springs Elementary

Poultry Category: Chicken Division

1st Place – Jackson Garcia – Cypress Springs Elementary

2nd Place – Darius James – A. E. Phillips

3rd Place – Zoey Smith – Choudrant Elementary

Egg Category: Appetizer/Salad Division

1st Place – Autumn Brown – Simsboro Elementary

2nd Place – Crystal Trim – Simsboro Elementary

3rd Place – Kaylea Murphy – Simsboro Elementary

Egg Category: Dessert Division

1st Place – Josiah Finley – A. E. Phillips

2nd Place – Baylee Craig – Cypress Springs Elementary

3rd Place – Reagan Breslin – Choudrant Elementary

Seafood Category: Shrimp Division

1st Place – Hanna Hiers – Cedar Creek Elementary

2nd Place – Savannah Long – I. A. Lewis

Seafood Category: Crawfish Division

1st Place – Kaylea Murphy – Simsboro Elementary

2nd Place – Greta Denny – A. E. Phillips

Seafood Category: Fish Division

1st Place – Mamie Jones

Wild Game Category:

1st Place – Bella Grace Yates – A. E. Phillips

2nd Place – Josiah Finley – A. E. Phillips

3rd Place – Grant Carr – Simsboro Elementary

The first place winner of each category received a gold neck medallion and a $25 Tractor Supply gift card. The second place winners of each category received a silver neck medallion and a $10 Tractor Supply gift card. The third place winners of each category received a bronze neck medallion. Sponsors for this contest were Tractor Supply of Ruston, Lincoln Parish Cattlemen’s Association, and Farm Bureau Insurance. We appreciate our sponsors for allowing us to be able to recognize these deserving Lincoln Parish 4-H youth with awards and we thank them so much for their support of the Lincoln Parish 4-H Youth Development Program. We thank Tractor Supply of Ruston for hosting the contest. The judges for the contest were: John Lee, Mary Poe, Julie Holmes, Johnnie Hogan, Barbara Johnson, and Robbin Evans. We thank our judges for their time, expertise, and dedication to the Lincoln Parish 4-H Youth Development Program. We also thank Cathy Judd for presenting the educational program for the event. She offered a wonderful learning experience for the youth participating in the cooking contest.

By entering the 4-H Cooking Contest, Lincoln 4-H members were able to practice valuable life skills. They also had the chance to share their culinary talents.
