The LSU AgCenter is proud to present the 2017 Ag Magic Event to be held at the John M. Parker Coliseum on the LSU Baton Rouge Campus. The event will run from April 3—7 for school tours and open April 8 and 9 for the general public from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
This fun, interactive event allows participants to walk through the various and different agriculture industries that are found in Louisiana. From agronomy to zoology, attendees will witness and experience it all. Hands-on stations allows youngsters to see first hand what agriculture really is. Most exhibits are geared towards youngster up to 5th grade level; however, this event is great for the whole family! Mark your calendars, you won’t want to miss it!
It’s time to start training for the contest of your choice! Join 7th-12th grade 4-H’ers from every parish June 21-23, 2017 on LSU’s campus. Not only will you have the opportunity to compete in a contest or Clover College, but this is a great opportunity to live like a college student! Please see the options below and contact Ms. Katie for more information regarding contests and opportunities. The deadline to sign up is May 19th.
This parish-wide community service project will run through March 31, 2017. This is a simple way for clubs in EBRP to take part in a service project and spread the spirit of 4-H! All clubs are encouraged to participate and collect as much change as possible. At the conclusion of this contest, the club that collects the most change will choose the charity that all funds will be donated to. All change collected will go towards making a positive change in our community and making EBRP a better place. If your school is interested in participating, please contact the EBR 4-H Office to get your official Change for Change collection jar. Help out TODAY!

The EBR 4-H Cookery Contest was held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 in conjunction with the Parish Livestock Show. We had LOTS of great dishes in a variety of categories. After much debate and careful tasting from our judges, we are proud to announce and congratulate our winners:
These winners will now move on and compete at the Regional Cookery in Ponchatoula, LA on May 16, 2017. Congrats and best of luck!
Summer 2017 is sure to be one for the record books! Over these sunny months, 4-H has lots of different events going on for
you to participate in. Below are two great camping opportunities available to you. Think ahead and plan NOW…
Spots will fill quickly for 4-H Summer Camp, July 24– 28, 2017 at Camp Grant Walker in Pollock, LA. Registration is open to any 4th-6th grade 4-H’er, but is available on a first come first serve basis and spots are limited for East Baton Rouge Parish. The cost is $250.00 which includes a camp t-shirt, parish picture, transportation to and from camp, all meals, and
$20.00 to be spent at the Camp Store. If your child receives free or reduced lunch, they are eligible to receive a scholarship from the LSU AgCenter Chancellor reducing the cost to $190.00.
Attention 7th-8th graders – here’s a camp just for YOU! Join 4-H’ers from all 64 parishes in a quest to learn about different career choice opportunities through hands-on scientific learning and discovery while partaking in traditional camping activities. Louisiana Outdoors Science & Technology (LOST) Camp focuses on implementing the outdoors with science to achieve mastery through exploration and critical thinking.
LOST Camp will take place July 31– August 2, 2017 at Camp Grant Walker in Pollock, LA. In order to register for LOST Camp please contact Ms. Katie at the Parish Office. Registration will close Tuesday, May 30th.
The next Horse Club meeting will be held on Thursday, March 9 at 6:00 PM at Central Perk. The monthly clinic will be Sunday, March 26 at 2 PM at Shady Park Arena. If you have any questions or need more information, please contact Mrs. Katie.
Important Dates to remember:
Although going off to college is an exciting time in life, it can also be very expensive. 4-H is here to help with your financial needs through parish and state scholarship opportunities. All high school seniors in East Baton Rouge Parish must complete their 4-H Scholarship forms and turn them into the Parish Office by March 6, 2017. If you submit your application online, please be sure to contact the 4-H Office to notify us. Scholarship forms can be found and downloaded at: http://www.lsuagcenter.com/topics/kids_teens/4-h_members/scholarships awards
We encourage senior 4-H members to take advantage of the scholarships available. This is your opportunity to showcase your involvement and get awarded for it!
Shooting Sports Club members, please be mindful of the upcoming practices and contests. Remember, all participants must have 8 practice hours to compete in the upcoming meets.
Here are some dates to remember:
The Regional Shoot will take place March 22—26, 2017 in the Ascension/West Baton Rouge Area. Only trained shooting sports participants are eligible for competition.
