A list of nurseries specializing in pecan trees can be found on the Sources of Pecan Trees and Propagation Wood page on the General Orchard Maintenance page of the Pecan Station website. These nurseries usually sell out of their popular varieties quickly. It may be necessary to place orders in the spring for delivery in the fall or following spring.
Pecan trees can often be found in local nurseries; however, caution should be used when purchasing these trees. Some of the trees may be western varieties, such as Comanche and Wichita, which are poorly adapted to Louisiana conditions. Pecan varieties for Louisiana should have good scab disease resistance, since that is often a limiting factor in growing pecans in Louisiana. This is especially true for yard trees and small orchards where it is not economically feasible to spray large pecan trees several times a year with fungicide to control scab disease.
