Lousiana Dairy Statistics 1965-2010

As you observe the numbers about the Louisiana dairy industry for the last ten years, the total economic contribution in 2011 was over $135 million.

Ninety per cent of the 140 Louisiana dairies are located in St. Helena, Tangipahoa, and Washington parishes.

Milk prices have risen from $14.40 per hundred weight (cwt) in 2009 to $20.86 in 2011.

Louisiana dairymen only produced about a third of the needed milk to supply the fluid milk at the retail level.
