Summer Camp

With “We’re Wild about 4-H Camp Grant Walker” as the theme, 53 St. Martin Parish elementary 4-H members attended 4-H summer Camp #5 on June 25 - 29, 2012, at the Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center in Pollock, Louisiana. They were joined by other 4-H members from East Baton Rouge, West Baton Rouge, Cameron, Claiborne, St. John, St. Mary, and Livingston Parishes. 4-H members from St. Martin Parish who attended camp were Joshua Alleman, Mya Andrus, Molly Angelle, Sara Baudoin, Kyle Blanchard, Reagan Boudreaux, Emma Breaux, Benjamin Broussard, Sarah Broussard, Cameron Choplin, Allie Citty, Adrian Courville, Sera Denais, Mia Foti, Alana Frederick, Jacob Gallet, Logan Gary, Leah Gaspard, Hattie Gros, Craig Guidry, Kaitlyn Guidry, Laney Guidry, Olivia Guidry, Emily Hebert, Cy Johnson, Jace Knott, Kameron Lalonde, Drue Landry, Kiley Latiolais, Madison Latiolais, Jacie Laviolette, Jacob McDaniel, Madison McDaniel, Micah Meche, Logan Patin, Carson Pellerin, Conrad Pellerin, Peyton Pellerin, Alex Perdikis, Kalyn Poirrier, Ross Quirk, Isaac Richard, Colyn Scrantz, Jaden Scrantz, Jordan Serrette, Makayla Simoneaux, Logan Smith, Camryn Trimble, Jolie Venable, Katelyn Vicknair, Kourtni Vicknair, Logan Willis, and Christopher Wiltz.

Each club member selected an educational track to experience each morning from the topics of Outdoor Adventures, Food and Fitness, Dramatic Arts, Wetlands, Hunter Safety, and Science, Engineering, and Technology. Each afternoon they rotated as groups participating in the following activities: sports, swimming, arts and crafts, canoeing/kayaking, archery, indoor games, line dancing, tubing, and water sports. Evening activities consisted of a movie, dance, swimming, or arts and crafts projects.

Six high school members of the parish’s Junior Leader Club served as counselors and group leaders for the camp. They were Jeffrey Boudreaux, Jonathon Boudreaux, Hannah Landry, Garrett Richard, Taylor Serrette, and Linsey Stelly. Serving as chaperones were St. Martin Parish Extension Agents Laura Brumbaugh and Hope Guidry.
