The LSU AgCenter, Area Nutrition Agent, Cynthia Clifton along with the FCS Nutrition Advisory Board Committee sponsored a Nutrition Poster Contest for the 9th grade students from West St. John High and East St. John High schools.
A letter and flyer was sent to the two high schools with the theme: “My Favorite Healthy Foods for Life” in March with a deadline of April 11, 2014.
Three students participated in the Nutrition Poster Contest. Tyran and Tyrell Gordon from West St. John High and Ty’Jonae Raymond from East St. John High.
The contest was judged on composition, theme, originality of design and creativity in relations to their favorite healthy foods for life.
The winner, Tyran Gordon, from West St. John High School received a $10.00 gift certificate to Wal-Mart.
Tyran’s poster displayed the five food groups: vegetables (pumpkin, bell pepper, peas, and carrot), fruits (pineapple, banana, apple, and watermelon), protein (fish), dairy (picture of milk) and grains (cereal).
Tyrell Gordon, West St. John High School received a Certificate of Appreciation for participating in the Nutrition Poster Contest.
Ty’Jonae Raymond, from East St. John High School received a Certificate of Appreciation for participating in the Nutrition Poster Contest.
Thank you to the students that participated in the Nutrition Poster Contest, maybe next year we will have more applicants.
