St. James Parish 4-H'er, Victoria Rocquin, St. James Community Club member, represented St. James Parish 4-H in the Louisiana State 4-H Commodity Ambassador Contest that was held April 24, 2012 on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge.  Approximately 75 4-H'ers from across the state competed in the egg, seafood, sugar, turkey and chicken contests.  The ambassador contest allows 4-H members to increase their knowledge on commodities grown in Louisiana, and display communication and written skills.

Participants selected one commodity, prepared a 500 word essay, and presented a 2 to 3 minute speech based on one of five categories: production, food preparation and nutritive value, food safety, process, and marketing.  In the Egg Ambassador, Division II, Victoria received 2nd place on her speech that targeted food preparation and nutritive value of eggs and her interest in using eggs in desserts.  Congratulations to Victoria on a job well done.

This is just one of the many opportunities available to St. James youth through the 4-H program.  For more information on this or any other 4-H program, call the 4-H Agents in the St. James Parish LSU AgCenter office.
