The 2012 Cenla Forestry Forum was held on February 23, 2012, at the LSU AgCenter Evacuation Shelter in Alexandria, La. The 124 people who attended were forest landowners, forest land managers, and logging contractors. At the forum they were educated about a wide variety of current issues affecting forestry and forest landowners in Louisiana. Attendees received the latest information on CLECO’s plans to use logging waste to generate electricity in their Madison 3 Powerplant at the Rodemacher plant located in Boyce, La. Forum participants learned about Sundrop Fuels, Inc. and their plans to build a refinery in Rapides Parish that will produce bio-gasoline from logging debris with a planned startup date in the fourth quarter of 2014. Argent Property Services gave the audience an informative presentation about current oil and gas activity in Central Louisiana. Attendees learned about the biology of feral hogs, the damage they can cause to landowners, feral hog control methods and new laws affecting the control of feral hogs. Forum participants learned about current water issues in the Red River Basin and the current and potential impacts on forest management and the forest products industry.

Finally, attendees received an update on potential legislative and regulatory issues that could have a big impact on forestry and the forest products industry. Thanks to all the speakers and to everyone who attended the 2012 Cenla Forestry Forum. We hope to see you again next year.
