The 2014 Central Louisiana Garden Expo was held Friday, April 11th and Saturday, April 12th at the Evacuation Shelter located on Hwy. 71 South in Alexandria from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Over 500 participants gathered for the first annual event sponsored in part by the LSU Ag Center.

The purpose of the Garden Expo was to educate, inform and empower. Specialists and agents were available with educational materials, resources and tips on how to create the perfect yard and beautiful landscapes. Guest speakers included LSU Ag Center Consumer Horticulturalists Dan Gill and Sarah Rodgers, as well as Master Gardener Jonnie Hart. Also, several businesses such as Zesty Products, Loewer Equipment and South Circle Traffic Sales showcased lawn equipment, products and accessories to make any job easier. In addition, various nurseries located in Forest Hill such as Hickory Hill, Clyde Holloway’s and Doug Young displayed a plethora of items and discussed services offered. “We were absolutely elated with the support from Central Louisiana,” said Dr. Boyd Padgett, Expo Chairman and Central Region Director. “We’d like to thank all of our vendors, exhibitors, sponsors and attendees who made this event a huge success. This would not have been impactful without your participation,” Next year, organizers anticipate a larger crowd with more vendors/exhibitors to meet the needs of participants.

“We could not be happier,” comments Rapides Parish Chairman/County Agent, Terry Washington. “The facility was ideal with its spacious accommodations. Initially, some were hesitant since this was the first event. But, now, there are numerous partners posed to collaborate.”
