Regional 4-H Cook-Off Winners

The regional 4-H Commodity Cookery Contest, held March 6 at the Rayville Center, featured some fierce competition while showcasing many mouth-watering recipes from Northeast Louisiana youth.

Madison Parish 4-H’ers joined nine surrounding parishes for the annual competition in six commodity groups including over 65 dishes featuring beef, chicken, egg, pecans, rice, and sweet potatoes. To compete at the area level members had to qualify by winning first place in the parish 4-H Cooks! Contest held February 16.

The purpose of the contest is for 4-H members to have fun and learn more about food preparation and safety, nutritional value and versatility of agricultural commodities. All contestants participate in an educational program and receive medals and certificates. First, second and third place winners receive cash prizes.

The 2012 Madison Parish 4-H Area Cookery team members and placings are as follows:

Chicken: Morgan McCormick, Delta Christian, 5th grade – Second Place

Sweet Potato: Karvan Powell, Jr., Delta Christian, 4th grade – Second Place

Pecan: Aidan Collins, Delta Christian, 5th grade – Third Place

Beef: Morgan McCormick, Delta Christian, 5th grade – Blue Ribbon

Egg: Elizabeth McBroom, Delta Christian, 5th grade – Blue Ribbon

Rice, Any Other: Hannah Till, Delta Christian, 5th grade – Blue Ribbon
