Parish 4-H Members Enjoy Summer Camp

Fifteen Jefferson Parish 4-H members joined members from Orleans, St. Bernard, Plaquemines, East Feliciana, Morehouse, Winn, and Ouachita parishes for an exciting week of good times and good friends. The week long camp was held at the Grant Walker Educational Center in Pollock, LA. Campers enjoyed educational tracks which included Outdoor Adventures; Food & Fitness; Dramatic Arts; Louisiana Wetlands; SET … Science, Engineering & Technology; and Hunter Safety, along with many recreational activities.

4-H Day at the Capitol

Eleven Jefferson Parish 4-H members and eight volunteer leaders visited the Louisiana State Capitol in Baton Rouge earlier this summer for “4-H Day at the Capitol”, joining hundreds of 4-H members, 4-H volunteers and parents from throughout the state. While at the State Capitol, members of the Jefferson Delegation visited with Senator Conrad Appel, Representative Robert Billiot, Representative Joseph Lopinto, and Representative Tony Ligi. Members of the Jefferson group were able to sit in on a committee hearing with Representative Billiot. Participants were also able to visit the Louisiana State Museum in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the state of Louisiana.

Teens attend 4-H University

Five Jefferson Parish teens participated in the annual State 4-H University held in late June on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge. Over 1300 4-H members from across Louisiana spent several days in Baton Rouge participating in state level competition or receiving intensive training in selected subject areas, such as Forensics, Food and Fitness, and Citizenship. 4-H University is one part of the LSU Ag Center’s 4-H Youth Development Program, which is designed to teach young people valuable life skills by involving them in educational projects and service activities.

Leadership Clubs Forming Now

The Jefferson Parish 4-H Program is announcing two community-wide clubs with leadership, community service, and fun in mind! Service learning

Our first recycling drive will consist of collect gently used blankets as well as coats and jackets. Please note: This is a change from last year. We are collecting blankets as well as coats and jackets for donation to area shelters in the upcoming winter months. All donated items should be clean with no holes. We will collect these items throughout the months of September and October. Clubs can promote this as a school-wide project. Mailbox members can drop their donations off at the 4-H office or call (504)736-6519 to make arrangements for pick up.
