Louisiana Outdoor Science and Technology Camp

This special camp will be held Monday, July 30—Friday, August 3 at the Grant Walker Educational Center in Pollock, LA. It is open to boys and girls completing 7th grade or 8th grade as of May 2012. Tracks will cover Wetlands, Energy, Videography, Kitchen Chemistry, Outdoor Skills, ATV, and more! Participants will choose and participate in 3 of these tracks while at camp. Contact the 4-H Office to register.

4-H Day at the Capitol

The annual “4-H Day at the Capitol” has been announced by the State 4-H Office. All 4-H members and volunteers are invited to travel to Baton Rouge on Wednesday, May 30 to participate in this fun, educational event! Visit our historic state capitol building! See how our government works! Meet some of your Senators and Representatives who make up our Louisiana Legislature. The day will begin with a short program on the front steps of the Capitol at 10:00 a.m. Members from all over the state of Louisiana will participate. Contact the 4-H Office to register.

4-H Summer Camp

How would you like to spend a fun-filled week playing soft-ball, basketball, badminton, and volleyball? Maybe you would enjoy swimming in an Olympic-sized pool, canoeing, making handicrafts, and learning to shoot a bow and arrow. Maybe you would like to meet and get to know other 4-H members like yourself in a beautiful outdoor setting. If this sounds like fun, plan on spending a week at 4-H Camp this summer. Camp will be held Monday through Friday, June 11—15. Camp is open to boys and girls in 4th—6th grades. Jefferson Parish campers will join boys and girls from other surrounding parishes at the Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center in Pollock, LA for a fun-filled week of adventures and good friends. (Pollock is located near Alexandria, LA in the central part of the state.) Campers will travel by bus to the Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center. Transportation is included in camp fees. Contact the 4-H Office to register.

4-H University

4-H University will be held in Baton Rouge on the LSU campus Tuesday, June 19 - Friday, June 22, 2012. This exciting and ever popular event is open to 4-H members age 13 and older (must have reached 13th birthday by 1/1/12). Teens will get to experience a taste of college life as they stay in college dormitories and explore the beautiful LSU campus. They will join approximately 1,500 teens from across the state for this 4-day event. Participants choose a competitive or non-competitive track for 4-H University.

Participants in the competitive track select a contest area, prepare for competition, and then compete with other 4-H members for trips and other awards. Some contests are team events, while others are for individuals. Contest areas are varied and numerous. They include Computer Simulation, Sports Broadcasting, Fishing Sports, Dog Care, Personal Development, Public Speaking, Nutrition Illustrated Talk, Outdoor Skills Triathlon, and 4-H Has Talent. Participants in the non-competitive track (Clover College) will attend approximately 7 hours of workshops in a selected area of interest. A complete list of available Clover College areas with descriptions will be provided to interested individuals. Interested members will get a complete list of contests and requirements for each. Contact the 4-H agents at 504-736-6519 for an application.

Winners from several contests and events are listed. Please see attached newsletter for names. They include: Senior Honor Card, Junior Leader Conference, Commodity Cookery, State Ambassador Contest,Dairy Poster Contest, Geaux Green Poster Contest and Container Garden Contest.
