Grants, Awards, and Scholarship

Jeffery Balint ($500.00) and Saida Granizo ($1000.00) were named recipients of the Scott Truck and Tractor Scholarship for Jefferson Parish. Jeffery is a Home School student in Kenner who is a Mailbox Member. Saida is a student at Word of Life Academy in Terrytown. Saida was also named recipient of the Louisiana 4-H Foundation Parish Scholarship ($100.00). We had 5 camp counselors who each received a $70.00 scholarship.

Events/Programming Committee

Summer Programs- A complete list of participants for all summer programs is listed the newsletters. Summer programs included: Beef Poster Contest Winners, 4-H Day at the Capitol, 4-H Camp, 4-H University, L.O.S.T. Camp, Geaux Green Poster Contest, and State Records.

Officer/Leader Training- Event was held October 20th at Belle Chase Primary School. A complete list of participants is listed in the November newsletter.

Challenge Camp- Jefferson had 6 participants in attendance. The event was held November 12-14 at Tickfaw State park.

Shooting Club – Congratulations to Hayley Kunzli and Laura Melancon who both represented Lafitte’s 4-H Shooting Sports Team at the national level this summer. Hayley represented the state at the 4-H National Shooting Sports Competition in Grand Island, Nebraska, placing 6th Overall in Air Rifle. Laura won a spot on the Louisiana State Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP)/USA Shooting Jr. Olympic Team and shot Precision Air Rifle at the Civilian Marksmanship Center in Anniston, Alabama in June. Laura ranked 15th in the Junior shooters and Hayley ranked 35th in the Intermediate Junior shooters at the NRA Championships also held at the CMP Range in Anniston, Alabama. Laura nationally ranks 14th in the NRA Sectionals for Sporter Air Rifle.

4-H Clubs- Current clubs are at the following schools/community organizations: East Bank Home School, Airline Park, Audubon, Clancy/Maggiore, Fisher, Kerner, Hazel Park, Metairie Academy, Roosevelt, OLPS, OLPH, Chateau Estates, Grace King, Alice Birney, William Hart, Thibodeaux, Terrytown, West Bank Teen Leaders, and Patrick Taylor.

Smart Bodies

Smart Bodies is being conducted at: OLPS, OLPH, William Hart, Thibodeaux, St. Rita, Phoebe Hearst, and St. Rosalie.

Fundraisers

Tote Bags-We will be selling tote bags at the spring garden show. Other ideas are welcomed.

T-shirts- T-shirts will be sold for $10.00 and we have some available now for sale. Order form is in the September newsletter.

Community Service Projects

Geaux Green – New this year is the collection of gently used coats. We are also collecting gently used blankets. Blankets/coats will be distributed to homeless shelters in the area.

Christmas Projects - We are collecting new unwrapped toys targeting youth ages 9 and older and gift cards from places such as Wal-Mart, Target, and Dollar Tree. We are also collecting other Christmas items such as: Christmas socks, Christmas books, Santa hats, Christmas puzzles, Christmas coloring books and crayons.
