Grants, Awards, and Scholarship- Scott Scholarship winners are Cecelia Borne, Word of Life ($600.00 and $100.00 La. 4-H Foundation Scholarship); Bitu Li, Grace King ($200.); John Hood, Word of Life ($200.00) Checks have been mailed. A new check in the amount of $1000.00 was received for this upcoming school year.
Summer Programs- A complete list of participants for all summer programs is listed the newsletter. Summer programs included: Beef and Dairy Poster Contest Winners, 4-H Day at the Capitol, 4-H Camp, 4-H University, L.O.S.T. Camp, and Shooting Sports.
T-shirts- T-shirts will be sold for $10.00 and we have some available now for sale. Order form is in the September newsletter.
Fundraisers- Suggestions are needed. Some ideas include Teddy Bear House and World’s Finest Chocolate.
Upcoming Events- LSU Football Game (October 26), Smart Bodies (On-going), Officer Leader Training (October 19), and Challenge Camp (November 4-6). Information on all these events is discussed in the September and October 2013 newsletters.
Geaux Green –We are collecting gently used blankets. Blankets will be distributed to homeless shelters in the area.
Jefferson Parish 4-H Foundation Board Meeting Monday, December 9, 2013
Grants, Awards, Scholarship, Fundraisers-We received $1,500 from the Master Gardeners of Greater New Orleans for gardens projects at local school and $1,500.00 from red Dress to assist with lowering the cost for 4-H Camp. We raised $306.00 at the teddy Bear House. T-shirts will be sold for $10.00 and we have some available now for sale.
Officer/Leader Training- Event was held October 19th at Belle Chase Primary School. A complete list of participants is listed in the November newsletter.
Challenge Camp- Jefferson had 5 participants in attendance. The event was held November 4-6th at Tickfaw State park. A complete list of participants is listed in the December newsletter.
Shooting Club – Ellie and Laura were in Colorado attending an Olympic training event. Shooting Sports is now a 4-H community club.
4-H Clubs- Some clubs are slowly forming due to new leaders. Additional nutrition clubs may be added next year.
Smart Bodies-7 schools are participating this year. All parts of program are complete except the Body Walk which will be held in January, 2014.
Community Service Projects-We are also collecting gently used blankets for the homeless, toys for needy kids, and nonperishable food items for the Gretna Food Bank.
Cooking/Ambassador Contest -Contest will be held February 15, 2014 at Lakeside Mall center Court.
Hoops and Clovers- February 7, 2014. The Pelicans vs. the Timberwolves. Tickets are $22.00 each.
