2014 Sugarcane Exhibit & Judging Rules

Exhibit Rules - Adult Division

The term producer as it applies in this class is defined as follows: A producer is the person or persons who actually produce the cane they are exhibiting on their own operational unit.

  1. All exhibitors of sugarcane must be bonafide producers.
  2. All exhibitors must have had five (5) or more acres of sugarcane on their farming operation in 2013.
  3. A producer cannot enter more than one exhibit under the same class number.
  4. A producer’s exhibit will be disqualified if his/her sugarcane does not come from his/her own farming  operation.

Three (3) stalks make an exhibit and you may enter an exhibit in as many classes as you wish.

There will be classes and awards for the following varieties:

HoCP 85-845                                        L 01-283
HoCP 96-540                                        L 01-299
L 99-226                                                L 03-371
L 99-233                                                HoCP 04-838
HoCP 00-950                                        Any Other Sugarcane Variety

Exhibits can be brought to the Cyr-Gates Community Center located in Iberia City Park on Thursday, September 25th between 3:00 and 6:00 p.m., or Friday morning, September 26th from 8:00 - 9:00 a.m.

Sugarcane Judging Contest

Rules and Regulations Governing the Contest:

  1. This contest is limited to all bonafide FFA and 4-H members.
  2. A team shall be composed of three members from a bonafide FFA Chapter or 4-H club.
  3. Four exhibits of three stalks each will be used to judge three or four varieties of cane.
  4. No oral reasons will be required, but written reasons on all or some of the placing will be required.
  5. In case of one or more ties, the team or teams giving the best written reasons, according to the judge, will be declared  winner or winners.

Additional Information:

  1. The contest will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday of the Sugarcane Festival. (September 27, 2014)
  2. Have your teams report to the chairman at the Cyr-Gates Community Center located in New Iberia City Park at 8:30 a.m. for instructions.
  3. Three awards, consisting of trophy cups, will be awarded for the First, Second, and Third place winning teams. A plaque will be awarded to the high-scoring individual of the contest.
  4. Blue Ribbons will be awarded to the members of the First Place Team, Red Ribbons to the Second Place Team, and White Ribbons to the Third Place Team members.
  5. The trophy will remain on display at the school pertaining to the club or chapter permanently.
