Grant Parish Extension - See How Our Gardens Grow

The Grant Parish Extension Office in Colfax, Louisiana has a whole new look thanks to funds that parish parish chairman, Quincy Cheek obtained from the Grant Parish Louisiana volunteers for Family & Community. "Our office needed a little sprucing up, says Cheek.

4-H volunteers built the boxes for the raised beds and on Thursday, May 26, 2011 volunteers from different program areas came together to make the project a big success. Grant Master Nutrition volunteers and Grant LVFC members not only chipped in with the work, but they brought plants to put in the gardens as well. 4-H youth volunteers worked hard and learned a lot about gardening in the process.

At this point we have one herb garden and two raised bed vegetable gardens. Cheek says, "My goal is to have Master Nutrition and 4-H youth volunteers help maintain and harvest, we will offer nutrition programs along with healthy cooking demonstrations to youth and adult audiences in Grant Parish. The success of this project is a result of support and dedication of our volunteers, without them this would not have been possible!"
