Evangeline 4-H Beef Seafood Rice and Sugar Cookery Contest Results

The 2011 4-H Cotton Food Festival got off to a great start at the 17th Annual Cotton Festival 4-H Cotton Commodity Cookery Contest held Oct. 12, 2011, at the Ville Platte Civic Center. There were 102 dishes were entered in the Ground Beef, Seafood, Sugar and Rice Contests and three entries in the Ambassador Contests, which are sponsored by Jack Miller’s Food Products, the Louisiana Cotton Festival Association, Evangeline Parish Rice Growers Association, Mikey’s Donuts and the Evangeline Parish 4-H Foundation.


Parish winners in the Beef Cookery were: Low-Calorie Main Dish: Baylee Guillory, Sacred Heart Elementary 8th Grade with Beef and Vegetable Stuffed Peppers; One Dish Meal: Aaran Baquet, Sacred Heart Elementary 5th with Easy Shepard’s Pie; and Quick and Easy Main Dish: Kylie LeBas, Sacred Heart Elementary 4th Grade with Pepperoni Pasta Bake.


Seafood parish winners were: Oyster: Annabeth Briley, Sacred Heart Elementary 5th Grade with Oyster Dunbar Dip; Crab: Moira Parks, Sacred Heart Elementary 7th Grade with That Awesome Crabmeat Thing; Shrimp: Victoria Fontenot, Sacred Heart Elementary 7th Grade with Seafood Corn Chowder; Fish and Other Seafood: Hallie Daire, Sacred Heart Elementary 6th Grade with Easy Baked Catfish with Shrimp Cream Sauce; and Crawfish: Kylie LeBas, Sacred Heart Elementary 4th Grade with Cajun Caviar.


Parish winner in the Sugar Cookery were: Baked: Kadijah Fruge’, Mamou High 12th Grade with Magic Cookie Bar; and Unbaked: Annie Edward, Pine Prairie 11th Grade with Butterfinger Cake.


Rice parish winners were Rice Main Dish: Madison Fontenot, Sacred Heart Elementary 6th Grade with Cotton Pickin’ Rice and Chicken; Rice Side Dish: Kylie LeBas, Sacred Heart Elementary 4th Grade with Seafood Rice Salad; and Rice Dessert: Addie Pitre, Sacred Heart Elementary 6th Grade with Rice Pudding.


The Commodity Ambassador Contest winners were: Chicken Ambassador, Division I: Vic Parks, Sacred Heart Elementary 4th Grade; Egg Ambassador, Division I: Anne Christian Ardoin; and Sugar Ambassador, Division I: Karina Parks, Sacred Heart Elementary 4th Grade.


The Ground Beef, Rice, Seafood and Sugar parish winners will represent Evangeline Parish in the Regional 4-H Cookery Contests which will be held in Crowley in March of 2012. Commodity Ambassador winners will represent Evangeline Parish in the State Contest which will be in held in Baton Rouge in April of 2012.
