MCPP Meeting

Master Cattle Producer Program

East Feliciana and East Baton Rouge Parish Cooperative Extension Services are partnering to offer the Master Cattle Producers Program (MCPP).  The Master Cattle Producer Program is designed to educate producers on the various aspects of cattle production.

A series of educational workshops will be taught to include the following topics: reproduction, nutrition, economics and marketing, breeding and genetics, weed control, forages, animal health, animal handling, end product, and Beef Quality Assurance.  A Master Farmer class specifically targeting environmental impacts will be offered, as well as a Master Farmer Field Day.  Participants will be required to attend a Master Farmer Field Day in order to complete the Master Cattle Producer Certification.  Regardless of the size of one's operation, the MCPP will provide participants with an opportunity to increase their knowledge of cattle production.

Thirty participants attended the first workshop in Zachary on January 27, 2014.  Their learning experiences addressed animal handling, cattle safety and working facilities.  Cattle producers from the area parishes of East Feliciana, West Feliciana, East Baton Rouge, and Tangipahoa attended.  MCPP participants will meet approximately every two weeks and conclude with certification in mid June.
