2015 AgMagic

The LSU AgCenter is proud to present the 2015 AgMagic Event to be held at the John M. Parker Coliseum on the LSU Baton Rouge Campus. The event will run from April 20-24 for school tours and open April 25 and 26 for the general public from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

This fun, interactive event allows participants to walk through the various and different agriculture industries that are found in Louisiana. From agronomy to zoology, attendees will witness and experience it all. Hands-on stations allows youngsters to see first hand what agriculture really is. Most exhibits are geared towards youngster up to 5th grade level; however, this event is great for the whole family. Mark your calendars, you won’t want to miss it!

Attention Volunteers

This large-scale event requires many people to put on. If you’re interested in volunteering your time and efforts, please contact the EBR 4-H office at 225-389-3055 to get signed up. Various time slots are available and any help is welcomed.

EBR 4-H Achievement Day

We are all very excited to welcome back an age-old tradition to the EBR 4-H Program with our 2015 EBR 4-H Achievement Day. This fun, interactive day will take place Friday, May 8 at the John M. Parker Coliseum on the LSU Baton Rouge campus. All 4-H members are welcome to attend, either as a club or individually. In order to attend, everyone must be dues paying members and in good standing with their school. We ask that everyone please contact the 4-H office to register to attend.

Summer Horse Shows

Attention horse show participants! As the district and state horse shows rapidly approach, here are a few important reminders:

  1. All entry forms and payments must be turned in by May 18, 2015.
  2. Tri-Parish Trotters Horse Show will be May 9 in Clinton, LA. Show information and fees have been sent out via email. For more info, contact Shawn Zeringue.
  3. District Horse Show will be June 29-30, 2015, in Amite, LA. Be aware that all stalling, shavings, and RV reservations must be handled through the Amite facilities. They can be contacted at 985-748-5914.
  4. State Horse Show will be held in Lake Charles, LA. Stay tuned for more information to come.

Livestock Club News

Livestock exhibitors, please be aware of a great show opportunity coming up on April 25, 2015. The Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranches will host an open show to be held at the Dewitt Livestock Facility. Please contact the office for more information.

Also, as the weather heats up, be sure to keep your animals cool! Provide lots of shade and water to keep your animals healthy.

Interested in showing livestock? Want to show livestock but don’t know where to start? We’re here to help! EBR Parish is fortunate to have several different opportunities to enable 4-H members to have a livestock project. If you’re interested, please contact Shawn Zeringue for additional information.


Attention 7th- 8th graders – here’s a camp just for YOU! Join 4-H’ers from all 64 parishes in a quest to learn about different career choice opportunities through hands-on scientific learning and discovery while partaking in traditional camping activities. LOST Camp will take place August 3-7, 2015, at Camp Grant Walker in Pollock, LA. In order to register for LOST Camp, please contact Katie Strecker at the parish office. Registration will close Thursday, May 28.

4-H Day at the Capitol

Join us on the steps of the Louisiana State Capitol for the 14th Annual 4-H Day at the Capitol on June 3, 2015. This special event allows legislators from all parts of the state to hear the voices of 4-H’ers as we advocate for the Louisiana 4-H program. Along with this free event, you will receive a t-shirt and the chance to meet a representative or senator for East Baton Rouge Parish. All you have to do is register with Shawn Zeringue at the EBR parish office by May 1!

Change for Change

If your school club is collecting for Change for Change, please be sure to notify your agent. All collections must be complete and ready for pick up no later than April 15, 2015. Remember, no amount is too small to help with the needs of our community.

Shooting Sports Club

As the year comes to an end, the 4-H staff would like to congratulate all 4-H’ers who participated in parish and regional events, and good luck to those who have qualified for the state competition in Shreveport, April 23-26!

Fun in the Sun - Summer 2015

Summer 2015 is sure to be one for the record books! Over these sunny months, 4-H has lots of different events going on for you to participate in. Below is information about summer camp.

4-H Summer Camp • Spots are Limited! Call now!

Spots are filling quickly for 4-H Summer Camp, June 8-12, 2015, at Camp Grant Walker in Pollock, LA. Registration is open to any 4th-6th grade 4-H’er, but is available on a first come first serve basis and spots are limited for East Baton Rouge Parish. The cost is $225.00 which includes a camp t-shirt, parish picture, transportation to and from camp, all meals, and $20.00 to be spent at the camp store. If your child receives free or reduced lunches, they are eligible to receive a $60.00 scholarship from the LSU AgCenter Chancellor, thus reducing the cost to $165.00.
