Communication and Career Contest
Caldwell Parish 4-H'ers recently competed in the 4-H Communication and Career Contest held at Union Central Elementary on Feb. 3. Members competed in Demonstration, Ambassador Talk and Personal Development. This contest was sponsored by State Farm and the Caldwell 4-H Foundation.

Area 4-H Cookery Contest
Seven Caldwell Parish 4-H members participated in the Area 4-H Commodity Cookery Contest on Feb. 17 at the Rayville Civic Center. These students became eligible to attend the Area Cookery contest by placing first in their division at the Fall Foods Festival held in Nov. While their dishes were being judged, the 4-H'ers participated in Healthy Living games and activities. Alicia Foy placed 1st in the Chicken Commodity and Andie Flint placed 1st in the Sweet Potato Commodity. Both Alicia and Andie's first place dishes competed for the Area Cookery Best of Show award. Kayleigh Arthurs placed 2nd in the Ground Beef Commodity, Lindsey Coates placed 2nd in the Rice Main Dish and Hailey Ewing placed 2nd in the Egg Commodity. Red ribbon winners were Nealy McCoy in the Pecan Commodity and Macy Knox in Any Other Beef.

4-H Dairy Billboard Contest
Twenty-two members submitted entries for the Dairy Billboard Contest held in Dec. Participants in this contest use their communication skills and creativity to create a billboard encouraging or promoting the consumption of milk and milk products. The contest was divided into three divisions for grades 4-6, grades 7-8 and grades 9-12. First place billboards will be sent to LSU to be judged in a statewide contest. This contest was sponsored by the Caldwell 4-H Foundation.

4-H Fishing Clinic
The 4-H Fishing Clinic will be held on Saturday, April 5 at a pond to be announced at a later date. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. Members will fish from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. All supplies for the clinic (poles, bait, etc.) will be provided. Members will learn about outdoor safety and be able to compete in the Biggest Fish and Most Fish Caught contests. You must pre-register for this event by calling our office at (318) 649-2663 by Thursday, April 3.

4-H Pet Show
The 4-H Pet Show will be held on Monday, April 21 at the Caldwell Parish High School tennis courts. Registration will begin at 12:30 p.m. with the contest beginning at 1:00. Members can enter 1-3 categories but cannot enter two animals in the same category. All animals must be in cages or on a leash. Categories are Dogs, Small Animals and Large Animals.

4-H Records Contest
4-H portfolios, including completed project books for grades 4-6 and grades 7-12, Club Secretary's Book, Club Reporter's Book, 4-Star applications and Caldwell 4-H scholarship applications are due to the 4-H office in Columbia on Tuesday, April 15.

4-H Camp - "Whoo's Ready for 4-H Camp?"
4-H camp registration has begun. Caldwell 4-H'ers will camp this year from May 26-30. To be eligible to attend, a 4-H'er must in 4th, 5th or 6th grade and be 12 years of age or younger on Jan. 1, 2014. Camp fee is $175 and includes food, lodging, a t-shirt, picture and transportation. Payment is by check or money order only, made payable to Caldwell 4-H. All remaining fees must be paid and completed camp forms must be turned in to the 4-H office by Friday, May 9. To register, come by the Caldwell Parish LSU AgCenter office located at 106 Jackson Street in Columbia, La. Do not send forms or money to school. There will be a $25 charge for returned checks. Camp Grant Walker is an 80-acre campsite located near Pollock, La. about 15 miles northeast of Alexandria. 4-H Camp is a learning experience that helps boys and girls appreciate the outdoors, live together as a group, get along with others and appreciate people with different interests and backgrounds. If you are interested in going to Camp, please come by our office as soon as possible to sign-up. Our camp numbers are limited and registration is on a first-come, first-pay basis.
