Fall Foods Festival
Caldwell 4-H members recently competed in the 4-H Fall Foods Festival on Nov. 11 at Union Central Elementary School. Approximately 55 members entered 99 dishes in this event. First, second and third place winners received cash awards sponsored by Duff's Body Shop and Citizens Bank. All participants received ribbons. First place winners will compete at the regional event on Feb. 17 at the Rayville Civic Center. Congratulations to Kayleigh Arthurs who won Best of Show with her recipe for Not Your Mama's Stuffed Bell Peppers. Winners in each of the categories included:

Leaf ID Contest
Sixty-six entries were submitted in Oct. for the Leaf Identification Contest which was sponsored by the Caldwell 4-H Foundation. Cash prizes were awarded to the first through fifth place winners in all three divisions. All participants received ribbons.

4-H Junior Leaders Make Christmas Boxes for Local Youth
As a local community service project, the 4-H Junior Leadership Club "adopted" youth at Union Central Elementary School and filled large shoe boxes with small gifts and toys. 4-H Junior Leaders were responsible for selecting the age appropriate gifts for these youth.  The 4-H Junior Leadership Club is open to 4-H Club members in grades 7-12. The mission of the club is to develop leadership skills in youth and participate in community service learning projects. The next club meeting will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 15 at the Caldwell Prekindergarten Center from 4:15 - 5:30 p.m.

Fashion Revue
The 4-H Fashion Revue will be held on Monday, Jan. 13 at the Grayson Elementary school auditorium from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. All contestants are required to attend. Contestants need to be at the school by 9:00 a.m. to pick up garments and dress according to the appearance judging schedule. Appearance Judging, Ready-to-Wear and Consumer Decision Making will begin at 9:15 a.m.

Dairy Billboard Contest
Entries for the Dairy Billboard Contest are due on Jan. 31. The billboard design must be on any color 22" x 28" poster board. Do not attach anything to the poster that is more than 1/2" thick. Do not use glitter. Using a pencil, remember to print your name, address, social security number, school, grade and parish on the back of the poster in the upper right hand corner. Do not use commercial brand names on the poster. Do not use jingles, slogans, signs or pictures that are trademark or copyright protected on the poster. Contest divisions are Grades 4-6, Grades 7-8 and Grades 9-12. First place billboards will be sent to LSU to be judged in a statewide contest. Communications and Career Day
Communications and Career Day will be held at Union Central Elementary on Monday, Feb. 3 at 9:00 a.m. Communications and Career Day consists of demonstrations, career preparation interview and commodity ambassador illustrated talks. Career Preparation Interview divisions are Grades 4-6 and Grades 7-12. Ambassador Talk categories are egg, chicken, turkey, seafood and sugar. Please pre-register for this contest by calling the 4-H office at (318) 649-2663. The pre-registration deadline is Wednesday, Jan. 29. Beef Poster Contest
Entries for the Beef Poster Contest are due Friday, Feb. 28. Posters must be on 11x14 white poster board. Your poster should tell a story of beef and/or beef products and generate positive images of beef and beef products and not portray negative images of other food products. You can get ideas from magazines, parents, friends, nutrition bulletins and meat publications. Do not use copyrighted material. Computer generated clip-art may be used as long as it is not copyrighted material. Remember to write your name, address, age, school, grade and parish on the upper right corner of the back of your poster. Categories are Grades 4-5, Grades 7-9 and Grades 10-12.

4-H Camp
Caldwell 4-H'ers will camp this year from May 26-30. Camp signup will begin in March. Look for more information next month in the Feb. newsletter.
