A True Team Effort

Through the team effort of the LSU AgCenter, Ascension Master Gardeners, and Ascension Parish Government, several raised bed gardens were built at Lamar Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales.

The gardens contain newly released tomato varieties, new hybrid bell peppers, and new cucumber cultivars.

This endeavor will help ensure that newly released vegetable cultivars are suitable to the local area and environment, provide Ascension Parish residents with the necessary knowledge to grow healthy fruits and vegetables, and enhance the aesthetic value of Lamar Dixon.

In addition to the garden, citrus trees were planted at Lamar Dixon, and will be used as a tool to educate Ascension Parish residents on recommended production practices and citrus tree maintenance.
