Record Books for competition due to the 4-H Office on April 10th

"Learn by Doing" is the 4-H slogan! Compile all of those things you have DONE and LEARNED in 4-H into your 4-H Record Book! The 4-H record book is composed of the 4-H'ers project book or activity guide AND their portfolio!

The deadline to submit 4-H record books to compete in the parish Record Book Competition is April 10th!

All 4-Hers who submit a record book for competition will be recognized at Achievement Day! We will also select the top record books to send on to the State Record Book Competition, held this July! State winning record books are eligible for cash prizes and/or educational trips!

If you have questions about completing record books, please contact the office at 225-621-5799!!

Although all 4-Hers should have received a print copy of the portfolio, it can also be accessed in an interactive format at

http://www.lsuagcenter.com/portals/4h/teens/4h_portfolio.

*Record books should be placed into a folder with prongs or we have 4-H record books covers for sale at the 4-H office for $2.00.

* You do not need to include ribbons and certificates in the portfolio, pictures of the child doing the activity or contest with captions is preferred.

*Sheet protectors and sections dividers are not mandatory, but help in the overall neatness and organization of the record book!

Award Opportunities

Help us recognize deserving 4-H members engaged in Ascension 4-H programming through the Award of Excellence and Key Club Award Program. The Award of Excellence is designed for 4-H members under 14 years of age, while the Key Club Award is designed for 4-H members who are 15 years or older. For specific details about the awards read below. The award applications for both awards can also be found below!

Award of Excellence for Junior 4-H Members


Applications for Awards of Excellence for Junior 4-H members will be due to the 4-H office or emailed to cbrady@agcenter.lsu.edu on or before January 9. A club member may win the award only one time.
The basic requirements are as follows:

1) Must 14 years or under of age by January 1 of the club year application is made.

2) Must have at least two (2) years of 4-H club work, including award year.

3) Must score at least 250 points on the application and scorecard.

4-H Key Club Award

The 4-H Key Club Award in Louisiana gives recognition to 4-H Club members who have shown outstanding leadership ability in their club and in their parish. The object of the program is to encourage project growth, a broad program of 4-H club members who have shown outstanding leadership ability in their club and in their parish. The recipient of the 4-H Key Club Awards can be proud of their contribution to their club and community. A club member may win the award only one time. The application is due to the 4-H Office or can emailed to cbrady@agcenter.lsu.edu by January 9.

The basic requirements are as follows:

1. Must be 15 years of age by January 1 of the year application is made.

2. Must have three years of 4-H club work including award year.

3. Must have completed one year of active Junior Leadership work excluding award year.

4. Must score at least 360 points on the application and scorecard.

4-H Honor Chords

4-H Honor Chords are for those graduating seniors who are active 4-H members. To receive an honor chord to wear for your high school graduation, you must complete the application below and submit to the Ascension 4-H Office by January 9th. Forms can also be emailed to cbrady@agcenter.lsu.edu

LCAAA 4-H Scholarship (Guidelines and Criteria).

  • Application must be submitted by the deadline of Friday, May 18, 2018.
  • This is a one-time $500 scholarship.
  • Scholarship is open to all current 4-H members.Current and Lifetime LCAAA member’s children and grandchildren will receive additional points.
  • Must be a high school senior when applying
  • The scholarship is for any college in Louisiana.
  • The scholarship is for any field of study. Applicants majoring in Agriculture will receive additional points.
  • 4-H agents can submit more than one 4-H applicant per parish.
  • A letter of recommendation from the 4-H agent must accompany each application form.
  • The scholarship search committee, consisting of LCAAA members, will select the best candidate.
  • The recipient will have to show proof of completion of one semester or quarter with a 2.0 or better GPA and proof of re-enrollment in school before being awarded the money in the spring of 2019.
  • Applicants may only receive one of the LCAAA scholarships.
  • Application must be submitted by the deadline of Friday, May 18, 2018.
  • Member must be in LCAAA for 3 consecutive years.
  • Amount for the scholarship to be $400 to $600 (provided the money is generated).No more than $1,200 given in any one year.
  • Member is eligible to receive the scholarship once for every graduate degree or specialization program and eligible to receive funding once in every 3 year period for other professional development activities.
