North Louisiana farmers can get updates from LSU AgCenter experts on the latest information for growing rice and grain crops at two meetings on Jan. 29.
The first session will be held at 10 a.m. at the Rayville Civic Center. Only rice farming will be on the agenda, and topics covered by LSU AgCenter scientists will include variety development, agronomic practices and a look back at the 2008 growing season along with a presentation by USA Rice Federation President Betsy Ward.
The second meeting in the Monterey Baptist Church in Concordia Parish will feature updated information on growing soybeans and feed grains from 8:25 a.m. until noon. Topics will include weed and grass control in corn, soybean disease recommendations, soybean and feed grain insect control, pesticide drift control and the market outlook for soybeans and feed grains.
An afternoon session from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. in Monterey will cover rice insect and weed control, fertility recommendations and variety recommendations.
Individuals can obtain private pesticide applicator recertification by attending the entire morning session in Monterey.
