The fifth annual Louisiana Food Processors Conference will be held March 18-19, 2009, at the Lod Cook Conference Center and Hotel on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge.
Geared to people with an interest in Louisiana’s food processing industry, the two-day event sponsored by the LSU AgCenter and Louisiana Economic Development includes technical sessions and seminars by industry representatives, organizers said.
The conference will include presentations by Liz Sloan, owner of Sloan Trends Inc., and David Schmidt with the International Food Information Council. Dr. Suresh Pillia, a microbiologist at Texas A&M University, will cover food, bacteria and human health in a talk sponsored by the IFT Distinguished Lectureship Series.
Conference registration will begin at 12:30 p.m. on March 18, and the conference will conclude at 4 p.m. March 19. The program will include sessions on consumer trends, functional food and the consumer, water safety and value-added processing.
The registration fee is $125 before March and $135 after that date. The fee includes refreshments at all breaks, a reception on March 18 and continental breakfast and lunch on March 19.
