The LSU AgCenter’s Center for Natural Resource Economics and Policy has issued a call for abstracts for its 2007 national forum on socioeconomic research in coastal systems.
Set for May 20-23 in New Orleans, the conference is titled "Challenges of Natural Resource Economics and Policy." It follows a similar conference held on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge in 2004.
The meeting will focus on economics and public policy research in coastal systems, said Dr. Rex Caffey, CNREP director and a resource economist in the LSU AgCenter’s Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness.
"The catastrophic damage associated with the 2005 hurricane season has focused national attention on a region fraught with environmental challenges but also with some tremendous opportunities for socioeconomic research and extension," Caffey said.
He said conference organizers expect a combination of technical and nontechnical presentations dealing with coastal issues from around the United States or the world.
The deadline for proposals is Feb. 15, 2007. The call for abstracts is available on the Internet at http://www.cnrep.lsu.edu/2007/abstracts.htm.
