General Information

As you prepare youth for interviews, a key thing to remember is that they are very nervous, and sometimes just a tad bit of encouragement and comfort is all they need to get a jump start on preparing. Conducting practice interviews with several different people is a good preparation technique. Potential practice interviewers could be elected parish officials, AgCenter employees, or other youth who have prior experience with the types of interviews your 4-H'ers are preparing for.

Before the Interview

Be sure to gather some background information on the organization, contest, or board. This could include researching past conferences, organization goals, or people who have been a part of this organization, board, or contest. What are the goals? What are the expectations?

Preparing for Interview Questions

Practice answering potential questions that could be asked by the interviewer. Here are some examples:

  • What can you bring to this organization?
  • What makes you different from everyone else?
  • If you had to explain 4-H to someone who knows nothing about it, what would you say and why?
  • What does 4-H mean to you?
