Farmer Of Year Nominations Sought

Nominations for the 2006 Louisiana Farmer of the Year are now being accepted.

The award is given to recognize those individuals who have made outstanding contributions in the field of agriculture. The event is presented by the Louisiana Network, Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry and the LSU AgCenter.

Applications for nominations can be obtained at any parish LSU AgCenter Extension office or online at www.lsuagcenter.com/farmeroftheyearProducers from all areas of agriculture are eligible for the award, and the deadline for receiving nominations is Jan. 1.

Three finalists for the 2006 award will be recognized at the Lod Cook Center on the LSU campus March 17 – with the winner receiving a cash award, prizes and a proclamation from the governor.

This is the ninth year that the Louisiana Farmer of the Year award has been given. Last year’s winner was Gerard Frey, a rice and crawfish farmer from Iota.
