More than 800 Louisiana 4-H members and volunteer leaders convened at the state Capitol as part of “4-H Day at the Capitol” this month in Baton Rouge. The June 1 event was designed to help 4-H’ers learn more about the legislative process. Students and leaders arranged meetings with their legislators and had the opportunity to share information about ongoing 4-H activities in their respective parishes, as well as to tour the Capitol grounds as part of an educational trip.

In addition, as part of a service learning project that demonstrates one of the features of the 4-H program, 4-H’ers conducted a “Pennies for Postage” campaign. Students throughout the state collected pennies, which will be used to pay to ship items to military personnel serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
