Winners of 4-H scholarships were among those honored during an awards banquet Tuesday (June 19) at 4-H University in Baton Rouge.
The 4-H Club members from across Louisiana, who excelled in project work and recordkeeping, served as club officers or otherwise distinguished themselves during their years in 4-H, will be recognized during the 4-H University assembly Wednesday evening.
4-H University, formerly known as 4-H Short Course during most of its 93-year history, is an LSU AgCenter event that brings young people from across Louisiana to Baton Rouge for educational events, contests and other activities. The presentations Tuesday were just part of the three-day event, which is designed to provide participants with opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge in 4-H project areas ranging from computer science to nutrition, as well as supplying a vast range of other educational opportunities and chances for fun.
"It is a pleasure to honor these young people who have worked hard and deserve such recognition," said Eric Eskew, executive director of the Louisiana 4-H Foundation. "Even more, we’re definitely happy that we can help them continue their education by providing these scholarships."
LSU AgCenter Vice Chancellor Paul Coreil said the scholarship winners represent some of the best of the best in the Louisiana 4-H program.
"While we’re pleased to honor these young people, we also know there are many more 4-H’ers out there who also have worked very hard and deserve the same sort of recognition," Coreil said. "We extend our congratulations and best wishes to all of them, because they all are winners."
