Northeast Louisiana schools signing up for Ag Adventures

News Release Distributed 12/17/07

Ag Adventures, an educational experience in agriculture for fourth graders, will be held Jan. 28-29 at the Northeast District Livestock Show Barn and Civic Center, both in Delhi.

Students who attend will spend about 1 1/2 hours learning about agricultural products in Northeast Louisiana from LSU AgCenter agents.

The program will showcase four commodities – poultry, rice, livestock and horses. The animal events last about 30 minutes each in the barn while other activities will be held in the Civic Center.

The goal of the event is to increase awareness of the nutritional and economic importance of Louisiana commodities, said Keith Collins, LSU AgCenter agent in Richland Parish.

This is the second time for the event, which attracted 900 students in 2007.

“It went over really well last year, and we had good participation,” Collins said.

Students, teachers and parent volunteers from schools in East Carroll, Franklin, Madison, Richland, Tensas and West Carroll parishes are expected to participate.

Schools may participate either at Ag Adventures or at Ag Alley during Ag Expo on Jan. 18-19 in West Monroe.
