The 2011 Fall Field Day will highlight research carried out at the Southeast Research Station. This year's featured speaker is Dr. Steve Washburn, from North Carolina State University. He will talk about successful pasture-based dairying.

The tour will bring together farmers, university personnel and industry personnel for an informal discussion about pasture management at the Kiahnell Smith Dairy Farm on August 31, 2011, at 10 a.m.

Presentation by Dr. Kun Jun Han during the 2011 Southeast Research Station Soil Fertility/Pasture Renovation Field Day. This talk gives an update on Dr. Han's current research on organic fertilizers.

Presentation by Dr. Ed Twidwell during the 2011 Southeast Research Station Soil Fertility/Pasture Renovation Field Day. The talk stresses proper soil fertility to optimize nutrient utilization and pasture yield.

Presentation by Dr. Vinicius Moreira during the 2011 Southeast Research Station Soil Fertility/Pasture Renovation Field Day. The presentation emphasizes the importance of feeding efficiency and other management practices on whole-farm nutrient balance.

The field day will focus on restoration of pasture fertility, one of the most important aspects of livestock and horse farms in southeast Louisiana. Demonstrations will highlight equipments readily available in the region.
