Nuts of cultivar Candy are among the first to be observed shuck splitting in early-to-mid September.

Another picture of shuck split in cultivar Pawnee. Pawnee is one of the earliest maturing commercial pecan cultivars and can often be harvested in mid-to-late September.

Shuck splitting is also observed on nuts of the cultivar Pawnee.

Shuck split on cultivar Candy
Once the shucks split, they will begin to dry up and turn brown, shrinking away from the nut. Soon after, the nuts will fall from the shucks.
