May Field Clinic

Pecan Research-Extension Station faculty presented a pecan clinic on May 4, 2006, at Verl Day’s pecan orchard in western Pointe Coupee parish. Topics discussed included pecan nut casebearer, weed control, pecan scab disease control for orchards in southern Louisiana, planting pecan trees and pruning during the early years.  Information of these topics can be found on the Entomology, Horticulture and General Orchard Maintenance pages of this Web site.

Dr. Graham discusses weed control.
Dr. Charles Graham, LSU AgCenter horticulturist, discusses the benefits of proper weed control in pecan orchards.

John Pyzner prunes a young pecan tree.
Dr. John Pyzner, LSU AgCenter pecan and fruit extension specialist, explains and demonstrates how to prune young pecan trees.



Weed test plots.
Plots were established using broad spectrum and selective herbicides to allow growers to see what type of weed control they could expect from each herbicide.
