Vernon Parish Elementary Demonstration Day will be held Wednesday, February 24, 2010. The Jr. & Sr. Demonstration Day will be held Thursday, February 25, 2010. Demonstration Days will be held at the Lions Children Camp. Rules and Regulations are enclosed.

Vernon Parish 4-H Teen Leaders and members of the GATES Senior 4-H Club are planning to Mini-Marsh Maneuvers project for late March. The two day project will include planting Smooth cord grass on dunes in the coastal area to aid in erosion projects to help save our coast lines which are vanishing at an alarming rate.

-H Teen Leader members from Vernon Parish recently delivered the soft drink tabs collected from throughout the year to the Ronald McDonald House (RMH) in Monroe.

What a great topic to discuss as we all sit down to our holiday meals with friends and family. Sweet potato pie, sweet potato casserole, candied yams…the list could go on and on. Sweet potatoes and yams seem to be a staple item for our holiday meals in Louisiana.

This year’s Southern Region 4-H Volunteer Forum was held October 1-4, 2009 and provided volunteer leaders from across the Southeast an opportunity to attend workshops, participate in fun activities and listen to motivational speakers.

The annual West Louisiana Forestry Festival Pet Show was held October 9, 2009, and was filled with pets of all kinds ranging from pure-bred and mixed-breed dogs to cats and rabbits to goats with youngsters showing their pets ranging from the age of 2 to 18.

Pitkin Senior 4-H Club won the 9th Annual Vernon Parish 4-H Big Dog Bull Roping event during the Leesville Lion’s Club Rodeo held at the West Louisiana Forestry Festival.

The West Louisiana Forestry Festival Livestock, Rabbit and Poultry Shows were held the Friday and Saturday of the fair. The shows involved youth from across the parish as they exhibited livestock animals they raised.
