4-H Holiday Foods Contest

crawfish division contestants
Contestants in the crawfish division of Seafood Cookery were Emma Hopkins, Taryn Carter, Riley Trisler and Collin Loyacono. Taryn's dish, Selective Crawfish Pasta, was the Best Overall Seafood entry.
sweets division
Hannah Lachney, Elizabeth Ritchie-Fudge and Reed Sturgeon were contestants in the Sweet Treats division of the Holiday Foods contest. Reed's Praline Squares were judged the best overall dish in the Holiday Foods part of the event.
service project activity
While they waited for the results of the contest, 4-H members and their siblings made Christmas cards for residents of the nursing home.
A dozen local 4-H members showcased their cooking skills at the recent Holiday Foods Contest which included competitions in beef cookery, seafood cookery and holiday foods. 

The Best Overall Beef Cookery Dish was Sweet and Sour Meatloaf made by Jordan Semplonius. Selective Crawfish Pasta made by Taryn Carter was judged the Best Overall Seafood dish. Reed Sturgeon’s entry, Praline Squares, was the Best Holiday Foods winner.

Following are the results of the individual contests:

BEEF COOKERY CONTEST
:
Quick & Easy Main Dish - Jordan Semplonius – 1st place; Riley Trisler – 2nd place;
Kelsey Fontenot – 3rd place
One Dish Meal - Brandon Oliveaux – 1st place; Ellen Hopkins – 2nd place

SEAFOOD COOKERY CONTEST:
Crawfish Division
Taryn Carter - 1st place; Collin Loyocano – 2nd place; Emma Hopkins – 3rd place;
Riley Trisler – 4th place
Shrimp Division
Reed Sturgeon – 1st place; Kelsey Fontenot – 2nd place; Austin Loyacono – 3rd place;
Brandon Oliveaux – 4th place
 
HOLIDAY FOODS CONTEST

Appetizers - Austin Loyacono – 1st place; Jordan Semplonius – 2nd place

Judges for the contest were Beth Hill, Robbie Ramagos, Yvonne Talbot and Pam Wall.
While they waited for the judges’ decisions, the 4-Hers made Christmas cards for nursing home residents as a community service project.
