Gardening during the Holidays

In your mad rush to finalize your Christmas shopping, I would like to remind you that for those of us looking for something else to do, gardening is the answer. During this time of the year, you can plant onion transplants, shallots (sets or the green transplants) and all the cole/crucifer plants. Make sure the soil can be worked. Wet soil should not be tilled.

Pruning Fruit Trees

I have been getting many calls on “When is the best time to prune my fruit trees?” This is NOT the time to prune any fruit tree or fruit vine. The late dormant season, late January to February, are the ideal months to prune and fertilize.
