In hard economic times an easy way to save money is by cooking at home. On June 15, 2009, the Washington Parish Volunteer Homemakers held their annual Dairy Cooking Contest. Homemakers took home prizes for their excellent dishes. Six categories including appetizer, main dish, vegetable, salad, bread and dessert each had multiple entries. The Homemakers Dairy Cookbook with all winning recipes as well as wonderful local offerings will be available at the annual Christmas in July event being held on July 15, 2009, at the Washington Parish Fairgrounds at 10:30 am. The costs of the cookbooks are $1 each, and all proceeds go to help support the Homemakers Council's service projects.
A special thank you to Mary Evelyn McDaniel for her efforts as the Homemaker Council president. For more information on Family and Consumer Science programs in Washington Parish, contact Valerie Vincent at the LSU AgCenter 985-839-7855.
