Thirty-six fourth- through sixth-graders from across Vernon Parish attended summer 4-H Camp, June 8-12, 2009, along with more than 500 campers, teen counselors and adults from 11 other parishes across the state.

The Annual Miss Vernon 4-H Pageant was held March 21, 2009, with more than 50 contestants from around the parish vying for the opportunity to become the next Miss Vernon 4-H and to serve as an ambassador for the 4-H Program.

During the week of June 23-26, 33 teens from across Vernon Parish joined close to 2,000 others as they participated in the annual Louisiana 4-H University, formerly known as state 4-H Short Course.

Eight Vernon Parish 4-H members and LSU AgCenter 4-H agent Chad Hagan attended one of four weeks of Louisiana 4-H Marsh Maneuvers held in Grand Chenier and across the Gulf Coast.

All Louisiana 4-H members are invited to participate in the upcoming 4-H Honey Bee Essay Contest sponsored by the Louisiana Beekeepers Association and the Foundation for the Preservation of Honey Bees, Inc.

The annual Vernon/Beauregard 4-H Horse Show was held at the Beauregard Parish Covered Arena on June 19, 2009, with 4-H members from both parishes competing in halter, performance and speed events.
